Orquestra Mista de Boleros - Vol.2 (1963)

Musicolor/Continental MLP 9090

Orqestra Mista de Boleros presented tonight is unknown to me. All I know is that their discography consists of of two albums equally named of which this one is the volume 2.

The classical boleros are masterfully performed and the complete LP is pleasant, cool and has a nostalgic flair which is a combination not everyone is able to achieve, so I suspect that an otherwise renowned maestro has produced it with his orquestra renamed especially for recording these two albums...

If someone knows more about it all, I will be happy to add his information to this post.

While waiting for the one that knows, enjoy the enchanting sound of:

01. Solamente Una Vez (Agustín Lara)
02. Amor (Gabriel Ruiz / Ricardo Lopes Mendez)
03. Dos Almas (Don Fabian)
04. Que Te Vaya Bien (Federico Baena)

Elenco Radio Teatral - Moura Torta & Ali Baba e Os 50 Ladroes

RCA Victor 13-H2CP

Now an unexpected third album for today, this one could have been characterized as for children only, were it not for the fact that hard core Lindolfo Gaya and Zaccarias fans are more likely to be found in the grown up population.

If you understand Portuguese or if are just interested to collect every piece of music performed by the two Maestros:

Aranjos Musicais de Gaya

you will for sure enjoy:

Os Pequenos Cantores da Guanabara - Gosto do Rio (1965)

Philips P 632.763 L

For today's second promised album the same text as on the previous post applies, except that on Gosto do Rio children are singing for children and their parents. If I remember well the times when I was a child, my impression was that we, the children, were generally more attracted to music performed by adults, while our parents were melting in pleasure while children were singing, playing instruments or acting in movies.

Anyway, regardless of your current age, you will probably enjoy:

01. Eu Gosto do Rio (João Bedesque)
02. Esputinique Ai Li Ai Lô (Edith Serra)
03. Favela do Pasmado (Edith Serra)
04. Poliana (Zil Mac)
05. Terra Virgem (Vicente Celestino / Mário Rossi)
06. Marchinhas de Ontem:
Pierrô Apaixonado (Noel Rosa / Heitor dos Prazeres)
A Jardineira (Benedito Lacerda / Humberto Porto)
O Teu Cabelo Não Nega (Raul Valença / João Valença / Lamartine Babo)
Periquitinho Verde (Antônio Nássara / Sá Róris)
      Linda Morena (Lamartine Babo)
07. Um Carnaval na Primavera (Heitor dos Prazeres)
08. Estórias do Vovô (Edith Serra)
09. A Bandinha do Seu Tomás (Bob Nelson / Almeida Rego)
10. Flor da Mata (Jacobina / Murillo Latini)
11. Músicas do Meu Brasil:

Leo Peracchi e Sua Orquestra - Walt Disney Na America do Sul (1958)

Odeon MOFB 3046

Today I have the pleasure to present two albums, both of which could (conditionally) be labeled as music for children.
The first one is Walt Disney Na America do Sul with tracks that, were it not for the Três Caballeros on the front cover, could be passed as music for adults (although not for the "adults only" public). Brilliantly performed by adults: Léo Peracchi e Sua Orquestra (with a little help from Lenita Bruno).

I have enjoyed it all as much as I still enjoy Donald Duck cartoons.

I assume that these compositions were recorded as soundtrack for the South American languages version of Disney's movies:

01. Os Quindins de Iaiá (Ary Barroso)
02. Saludos Amigos (Alô Amigos) (C. Walcott / Ned Washington / Vrs. Aloysio de Oliveira)
03. Na Baixa do Sapateiro (Ary Barroso)
04. Lake Titicaca (C. Walcott)
05. Apanhei-te Cavaquinho (Ernesto Nazareth)
06. Três Caballeros (Esperón / Cortazar)
07. Tico-Tico No Fubá (Zequinha de Abreu)
08. Você Já Foi À Bahia? (Dorival Caymmi)
09. Aquarela do Brasil (Ary Barroso)
10. Jesusita En Chihuahua (E. H. Plumb)
11. Solamente Una Vez (Agustín Lara) Léo Peracchi / Lenita Bruno
12. El Gaúcho Goofy (E. Plumb)

COMMENT by Anonymous:
I have both versions and just watched both films on DVD. This CD has Portuguese language versions of the Latin flavored songs from the films. The songs and incidental music however have the same orchestrations. So they sound almost identical, except that there is really bad distortion at times on this CD, and they over did the noise suppression just a bit, so the highs are dull and almost muddy. Other than that, there's no reason to buy it if you already have a good sounding release in English, unless you have Spanish or Portuguese speaking people in your family.

Paulinho Nogueira - A Voz do Violao (1958)

Violão player Paulinho Nogueira has been featured on Parallel Realities only two times: Playing guitar on singer Lygia's beautiful, but unfortunately only career album, recorded in 1964, and on a various artists compilation called Música Para Ouvir Amando, with the link removed by the DMCA Sturmtruppendivision.

Thanks to Stu Blagden who wrote a comment asking if someone here has a better copy that the one he already has, and Pedro who read his comment and included this album in the new package, Paulinho Nogueira finally has his premiere with a career album.

Enjoy the voice of his violão singing these melodies:

ABOUT ALL VERSIONS by Brazilliance:
Being Jobim’s first orchestral effort, this is a recording of historic importance. However, while the second recording from 1960, again with Gnattali but different vocalists, is just as popular as the debut, the third recording seems less known: in 1961, the Sinfonia was the soundtrack for Esse Rio Que Eu Amo featuring Lana Bittencourt and Haroldo de Almeida on lead vocals, arranged and directed by Lyrio Panicali. All three versions are compiled for comparison HERE, featuring Os Cariocas as the only act to be included on all three recordings of the Sinfonia do Rio de Janeiro.

Gaucho e Seu Conjunto Y Don Agustin Y Sus Muchachos - Em Ritmo de Boite

Audience LP-AUD. 11.010

Here is something extraordinary and unknown (at least to me):

Em Ritmo de Boite with Gaucho and the mysterious Don Agustin with Sus Muchachos, recorded at an unknown date for Audience, a record company located in Brazil, but judging by the repertoire and cover of this release, aimed at the Spanish speaking audience, although it is an instrumental LP.

Agenor dos Passanrinhos e Seus Amigos de Olinda

Olinda LPGP-507

About the Olinda Carnaval, you may read the text on the back cover written by the Prefeito de Olinda, José Arnaldo Amaral. Needless to say that he did not fail to also criticize the official cultural politics of the government which does not give enough support and promotion to national artists.

The recording of the music took place at the sound studio of the Conservatório Pernambucano da Música at a date unknown to me.

Leaving politics aside, this is a great cultural project with the aim to promote the music and tradition of Pernambuco.

Those in charge of the direction and production are:

Direção Geral: Maestro Correia de Crasto

Produção: Agenor Nascimento

The compositions and the performers (additional details on the cover) are:

01. Marin dos Caetés (Agenor Nascimento) - Paulo Germano
02. Fora o Fmi (Agenor Nascimento) - Agenor Nascimento
03. Constelação (Baltazar de Carvalho) - Orquestra Correia de Crasto

Os Copa 4 e Pachequinho e Sua Orquestra - Isto e Sucesso (1964)

Copacabana CLP 11375

Maestro Pachequinho is well known to frequent travellers through time and across this particular parallel reality, but with the Os Copa 4 the situation is not quite clear, as so far here were featured: Os Copa 5, Os Copa 7, Os Copa Vips and as tonight's Os Copa: Os Copa 4, consisting of Ivan Paulo, Cosme Teixeira, Vera Ivete and Rildo Hora.

Don't let confusion spoil the listening pleasure while enjoying both sides of this album divided into:

Waldir Silva - Um Cavaquinho Diferente (1964)

Copacabana CLP 11395

I must confess that I had no idea about the existence of cavaquinho player Waldir Silva, despite his quite large 12 career albums counting discography, until I threw a look into the latest package and fished out of it his (as I later found out) second album recorded in 1964.

The back cover fortunately provides information about Waldir Silva (up to 1964, of course) as well as a comparison with Waldir de Azevedo, written by the great Dalton Vogeler.

I recommend reading the back cover text and listening to his music:

01. S.O.S. (Waldir Silva / Manoel Santiago)
02. Samba do Ba-da-tu-blim (José Bezerra / Pepe)
03. Um Mambo Em Renascença (Waldir Silva / Juraci Lucena)

ABOUT THE TWO GOVERNORS by Edson Mendes:

Carlos Lacerda was an important and controversial Brazilian politician in the 50's and 60's (he was the governor of the Guanabara State, that was created when the Brazilian capital was transferred to Brasilia in 1960, and now doesn't exist anymore).,
This "other Carlos Lacerda" (the musician) is presented here as the "Governador do teclado", for sure picked up on the popularity of the real governor!

Roberto Coura - Joias Musicais

Edições Paulinas EPD-0166

The first time I heard Roberto Coura play organ was about half a year ago and it was altogether great (altogether = Maristela + Roberto Coura + Conjunto).
Efforts to find more by him were fruitless, but I managed to spot the information about the existence of one more career album: Melodias Imortais, on which he performs classical tracks.

The album presented today is one I have not even found randomly mentioned. Here he is also performing classical music, composed by Beethoven, Grieg, Dvorak and several other equally suspicious characters.

In short: A rarity!

The compositions are:

01. Allegro (Hynd)
02. Serenata (Toselli)
03. Gavothe Stephanie (Czibulka)
04. Humoresque (Dvorak)
05. Marcha Triunfal (Grieg)

Gustavo Carvalho better known as Maestro Guaraná is in charge of the direction and arrangements on this (only?) album by the Bandinha do Jujuba.
About this release and the compositions, the back cover provides a long (unsigned) text, but as happens so often, does credit the newest hi-fi recording possibilities of the Polydor studio, but does not mention the names of the participants, except for Maestro Guaraná,

Renato de Oliveira Sua Orquestra e Coro - Tabuada Musical (1963)

Philips P - 632.147 - L

Maestro Renato de Oliveira for the first time under his real name on Parallel Realities with an, as far as I know, unlisted career album, which is, judging by the LP number released in 1963 or eventually in 1964.
The cover artwork will, maybe, look familiar to you, as already another album recorded for Philips that has been posted here a short time ago, has a similar cover done by the same designer.

Renato de Oliveira's career is split into, at least, two separate styles: The first is the famous Maestro, burdened with the obligation to record music that will boost his reputation of an artist and musical innovator, and the second as his relaxed alter ego, Cid Gray, performing para dançar music, without any artistic pretentiousness and avant-garde urge.

Which one of the two personalities residing in one person is the artist and which one the entertainer is a matter of idividual decision of the listener and can be formed and expressed according to taste and without any explanation.

Personally I am sceptic of artistic goals, as I believe that art can only come as the result of playing and composing simply for fun and joy.

This album we have in front of us is something third, performed by a combination of Renato de Oliveira, Cid Gray and a mysterious third element...

Anjos do Sol (1965)

RGE XRLP 5270

About Anjos do Sol , a vocal & instrumental group presented today with their first and only (?) album, I know nothing more than can be judged by looking on the front cover, as the back cover gives no more details than the track listing.

Lucinha Lins - Sempre, Sempre Mais (1982)

Polygram 6328 391

Lucinha Lins  with her first album, for the first time on Parallel Realities, on two tracks accompanied by Cláudio Tovar. About Lucinha I do not know much, except that she has recorded only several albums.
The compositions on this one presented tonight are mostly by the tandem Ivan Lins / Vítor Martins so guessing by the family name Lins, there is a possibility that Ivan might be her husband.

Enjoy:

01. Virou Vício (Abertura) (Ivan Lins / Vítor Martins) com Cláudio Tovar
02. Se Uma Estrela Aparecer (When You Wish Upon A Star) (Ned Washington / Leigh Harline / Vrs. Vítor Martins)
03. Espelho de Camarim (Ivan Lins / Vítor Martins)
04. A Cidade dos Artistas (Chico Buarque / Luis Enriquez Bacalov / Sergio Bardotti)
05. A Hora Do Touro (Nei Lopes)
06. Mudança dos Ventos (Ivan Lins / Vítor Martins)
07. Sempre Sempre Mais (Ivan Lins / Vítor Martins)
08. Surpresa (Ivan Lins / Vítor Martins)
09. Assobiando e Chupando Cana (Ivan Lins / Vítor Martins)
10. Purpurina (Jerônimo Jardim)
11. Enquanto Eu Brilhar (Ivan Lins / Vítor Martins) com Cláudio Tovar

Rumbas Inolvidables No 2 (1964)

Polydor LPNG 4083

A short time ago, I was trying to find some Rumba music across the net, but with meager results. Of course, there are contemporary bands performing a Rumba here and there, but the only full Rumba album I was able to find was an LP by Xavier Cugat...
By coincidence or telepathy, Pedro enclosed just what I wanted into the newest package:
A Polydor collection of Rumba music, if I understood the Portuguese text on the back cover correctly, a '64 rendition of well known hits, unfortunately without the name of the performers written on the covers.

Anyway, whoever performs these tracks has done it perfectly:

01. Se Va El Caimã (José Maria Penaranda)
02. Rumba Blanca (Armando Orefiche)
03. Tropical Magic (Harry Warren / Mack Gordon)
04. Maria La O (Ernesto Lecuona)
05. Vereda Tropical (Gonzalo Curiel)
06. Babalú (Margarita Lecuona)
07. Rumba Azul (Armando Orefiche)
08. Taboo (Margarita Lecuona)
09. Negra Consentida (Joaquim Pardavé)
10. Aquellos Ojos Verdes (Nilo Menendez / Adolfo Utrera)
11. Carioca (Vincent Youmans / Gus Kahn / Edward Eliscu)
12. Rumba Internacional (Armando Orefiche)
