Ze Maria - Chaguinha - Dionysio - Guimaraes - Samba Very Kar (1960)

Internacional CID. 27.027

Do I have to stress the fact that this is a premiere of an unknown artist, Chaguinha, about whom I know nothing.
If you ask what instrument he plays on this LP, I can answer only that he does not play sax (as it is played by Dionysio), nor does he play piano (as it is played by Guimaraes). He is also not playing organ (as Ze Maria is doing it)...

Whatever he is playing, these compositions are performed:

01. Samba Very Kar (Ibrahim Sued / Mário Jardim)
02. Esquece (Ary Barroso / Meira Guimaraes)
03. Nega (Waldemar Games / Afonso Teixeira)
04. Voce Passou (Nazareno de Brito / Acir Pires Vermelho)
05. Carinho E Amor (Tito Madi)
06. Chore Comigo (Adelino Moreira)
07. Paraiba (Humberto Teixeira / Luiz Gonzaga)
08. Menina Moca (Luiz Antonio)
09. Meditacao ( Antonio Carlos Jobim / Newton Mendonca)
10. Jura (Ze de Zilda / Marcelino Ramos / Adolfo Jose Macedo)
11. Tem Que Rebolar (Jose Baptista Ribeiro)
12. Amor E A Rosa (Antonio Maria / Pernambuco)

SO MUCH OF NO INFORMATION

CLARIFICATION by Brazilliance:

A swinging and lovely album! However, I wondered about some recordings sounding familiar, and a quick check of my inventory proved that this is an compilation album as songs from previously issued albums by Dionysio and Zé Maria were used. Assumingly, the songs marked [?] are taken from Guimarães’ album of 1960. Only the first track remains very mysterious:

01. Samba Very Kar = [n/a]
02. Esquece = Guimarães’ “Tardes na Guanabara” (1960) [?]
03. Nega = Dionysio’s “Romance no Texas Bar” (1959)
04. Voce Passou = Zé Maria’s “Você Quer Dançar” (1959)
05. Carinho e Amor = Dionysio’s “Sax Magia” (1960)
06. Chore Comigo = Guimarães’ “Tardes na Guanabara” (1960) [?]
07. Paraiba = Zé Maria’s “Você Quer Dançar” (1959)
08. Menina Moca = Guimarães’ “Tardes na Guanabara” (1960) [?]
09. Meditacao = Dionysio’s “Sax Magia” (1960)
10. Jura = Zé Maria’s “Você Quer Dançar” (1959)
11. Tem Que Rebolar = Guimarães’ “Tardes na Guanabara” (1960) [?]
12. Amor e a Rosa = Dionysio’s “Sax Magia” (1960)

Still, who is Chaguinha? I guess, it is either the trumpeter or the guitarist.

MORE CONFUSION by Milan Filipović:

Memoria Musical has under the name Chaguinha only one album listed. This one is called the same as this one presented here but has, except for the first track, a different list.

Celso Murilo e Seu Ritmo - Sambas na Passarela (1961)

Pawal P-20.002

Thanks to Andreas Dünnewald, the author of the book: Brazilliance - Record Covers of Brazil (1952-1977), I am gradually nearing the 18+ tag for Parallel Realities. Yesterday he sent me this rarity wrapped in countless beautiful and not too heavily dressed ladies, fronted by Angela Maria or a lookalike of hers.
After hours of staring at the artwork, I also found time to listen to organ player Celso Murilo's debut album, recorded in 1961.

You may do the same. Above is the front cover and below are the compositions performed:

01. Boato (João Roberto Kelly)
02. Atire A Primeira Pedra (Ataulfo Alves / Mário Lago)
03. Murmúrio (Djalma Ferreira / Luis Antônio)
04. Jarro da Saudade (Mirabeau / Daniel Barbosa / Geraldo Blota)
05. Samba Triste (Baden Powell / Billy Blanco)
06. Samba na Passarela (Luis Gonçalves / Nilton Valle)
07. Guarde A Sandália Dela (Germano Mathias / Sereno)
08. Volta (Djalma Ferreira / Luiz Bandeira)
09. Dizem Por Aí (Manoel da Conceição / Alberto Paz)
10. Fica Comigo (Luis Antônio)
11. A Fonte Secou (Monsueto / Tufic Lauar / Marcléo)
12. Zelão (Sérgio Ricardo)

Distracted, I almost forgot to mention the musicians:

Celso Murilo (Órgão, Piano)
Geraldo (Violão)
Célio (Baixo)
Bituca (Bateria)
Rubens (Pandeiro)
Cazuza (Cuíca),
Humberto (Agogô)
Wayne (Tamborim)
Pedro e Gilberto (Caixeta)

Confused, I almost forgot to write the appropriate link:

QUESTION by Milan Filipović:

Angela or not Angela, that is now the question.

MORE REALITIES by Brazilliance

Some trivia unveiled to add some more realities:

Nine songs from this album were reissued on Conjunto Balambossa’s “Samba ao Vivo” (Coledisc CD012): Samba Triste, Boato, Volta, Murmúrio, Dizem Por Aí, Fica Comigo, Falsa Baiana, Fiz o Bobão and Zelão. The rest of “Samba ao Vivo” was compiled from Celso Murilo’s “Órgão e Ritmo” aka “Convida a Dançar” (1963, Moeda Quebrada, O Amor em Paz) and Fats Elpidio’s “Samba da Madrugada” (1962, Na Roda do Samba).

Five songs from this album, Samba Triste, Quem Manda na Minha Vida, Volta, Boato and Zelão, were also compiled on the uncredited album “Samba Exportação” (Itamaraty ITAM-7079, c. 1970) which also contains songs from Celso Murilo’s “Ritmos na Passarela” and “Ferias no Drink

Zezinho e Coro Odeon - Compacto Duplo (1963)

Odeon 7BD-1099 (reissue from another reality)

That I am a fan of Zázinho (the singer) is by now well known to all visitors of this parallel reality, so there is no need to hide my delight after I received this compacto duplo, in spite of the fact that it had the same problem as the Alda Perdigão EP posted earlier today.
The solution to the problem was also the same: The missing cover had been found in another reality...

The songs are:

1. Segundo Casamento de D. Pedro I (Antonio Alves / Marques Balbino)
2. Tamborim de Ouro (Ary Guarda)
3. O Apito Na Escola de Samba (Billy Blanco)
4. Lá Vem Portela (Billy Blanco)

Alda Perdigao - EP (1960)

Odeon EP BWB 1.122 (reissue from another reality)

Several days ago, my friend Simon Boutman, an experienced time traveler, returned from one of his trips through the early sixties with a souvenir:
The lost, forgotten and impossible to find EP by Alda Perdigão from 1960, which he sent to us by mail.
Unfortunately, the EP was without the original cover, but someone else, for whom travels through parallel realities have become a routine, found in another reality existing parallel to the one, most of us consider as the only one, a passable cover, so this EP is ready to be posted and I am doing it right now.

Enjoy Alda's beautiful voice while she is performing:

1. Tome Continha de Você (Dolores Duran / Edson Borges)
2. Samba Triste (Baden Powell / Billy Blanco)
3. Fim de Caso (Dolores Duran)
4. Camelô (Billy Blanco)

Betinho e Sua Guitarra em Play Back - Suave Mensagem

Somdepaz LPSP-17007-B

Here is the fourth and last album by Betinho found in the latest package sent to us by Pedro & 300discos.
Here we have a completely different King of The Night, performing on his guitar instrumental versions of religious themes, accompanied by Luiz Schiao - Orgão and Minoru Shioda - Contra Baixo. The album was released by Somdepaz, a label promoting religious music.
The date of release is unknown to me, but logic says that it was recorded after his night club period.
Was Betinho fed up with sins, heavy drinking, adultery, rip-offs of guests by waiters and all other immoral things that usually happen nightly in night clubs, or was there another reason, I do not know, but there it is and here is the result:

Suave and beautiful:

01. Terra Feliz (J. P. Webster)
02. Vale de Bençãos (Sara Kally)
03. Muito Aém do Sol
04. Ao Teu Lado Meu Jesus  (Negro Spiritual)
05. Pai Celeste
06. Um Pobre Cego (O. Smith)
07. Mais Perto Meu Deus de Ti (Dr. L. Manson)
08. Manso e Suave (Will L. Thompson)
09. Bendita Hora de Oração (Wm B. Bradbury)

Pepito y Sus Cha Cha Chapas - Cha-Cha-Cha Para Dois (1962)

Philips P 630.487 L

Dancing with Pepito and his (y sus) Chá Chá Chapas, opens, after the dance to this masterfully performed Brazilian compositions, the inevitable question:
Who is Pepito?

And: Who are the Chapas, masters of the Chá-Chá-Chá rhythm?

The back cover text on their only career album (according to Memoria Musical) explains every aspect of compositions performed, but does not credit the musicians and says almost nothing about Pepito.

On the other hand the producer's full name is fortunately written loud and clear:

Enjoy Armando Pittigliani's production of these tracks performed by Pepito y Sus Chá-Chá-Chá Chapas:

After that record Philips released 2 LP of "Don Pepito", latest with arrangements of Miguel Cidrás (Miguel Angel Cidrás Rivas, RIP in 2008)- pianist and arranger from Montevideo famous for his work with Equipe label (as Miguel Angel with Os Ipanemas), with Som Nove combo, "Boogaloo Combo", with tango bands, etc. May he is this "Pepito"?

Betinho e Seu Conjunto - Betinho, Rock & Calypso (1959)

Copacabana CLP 10016

There have been so many unknown artists presented lately, thanks to Pedro & 300discos, that I completely skipped adding the "Premiere" text. Maybe it would be better to add "Not a premiere" to the occasional already presented artists.

Now is the time for Betinho the King of the Night, as the next album that will be posted is labeled, apparently a hot night club attraction at the end of the fifties.
Originally this album was released as a 10' LP one year prior to this 12' reissue onto which 4 tracks from 78 Rpms were added.

By the way Calypso Rock and Gabriel were part of the soundtrack for the movie Um Marido Para Três Mulheres.

The cast is credited with first names only, yet you will be able to spot out some very famous musicians:

Os Tres Tons (1963)

Polydor LPNG 4075

Yesterday, when I listened to Os Três Tons for the first time, I checked Memoria Musical but, curiously, got no results. Today I checked once more and there was their page with two career albums on the list, three compactos and one 78 rpm.
Besides Bossanov was so kind as to provide information about this trio and send their album from 1963, which he downloaded some time ago from the (now dead) link at Augusto's Toque Musical.

Altogether, it is now possible to get a more detailed insight of their music:

01. Despreocupadamente (Fredy Chateaubriand / Vinicius de Carvalho)
02. Alucinado (Afrikaan Beat) (Bert Kaempfert / Vrs. Esther Delamare)
03. Joga a Rede no Mar (Fernando César / Nazareno de Brito)

Os Tres Tons - Compacto Duplo (1964)

Polydor DCPN-500.027

Os Três Tons, an unknown (to me and probably to you) mainly vocal trio with a compacto duplo recorded at an unknown date.

Unknown are also the names of the three vocalists. What can be taken for granted is that the third one, on the right, is also playing guitar.

While waiting for more information about the Três Tons by someone who will hopefully drop by and knows more, I suggest to enjoy these four compositions sung in a very specific style:

1. O Menino e O Alçapão (Armando Calalcanto /  Victor Freire)
2. Jangadeiro (Bob Nelson / Antonio Silva)
3. Canção do Amanhecer (Nelson Caetano / Nemesio Silva)
4. Ave Maria dos Olhos Dela (Erasmo Carlos)

1st Tom (?): Nilson Prado Benevides (Nilson)
2nd Tom: Nelson Soares Caetano (Caetano) and
3rd Tom: Jorge de Oliveira (Jorge).

REVIEW by Bossanov:
Yes, they are great in this Doo Woop singing. I'm especially impressed with their "Mar Azul" interpretation!

Alda Perdigao Com Walter Wanderley – Compacto (1960)

A re post from the other reality where this compacto, found in third reality, was posted in the first part of 2011.
Here is the text as originally written at that time:

Some three week ago I received from Yves François, a friend from France, two songs by Alda Perdigão, a singer I like very much, she has recorded back in 1960, accompanied by the great Walter Wanderley.
Yves has downloaded these songs a long time ago from a site that is closed now, but both songs have the same fault: About 10 seconds are missing at the beginning of each track, which leads to the conclusion that the original up loader has recorded them on tape from radio.
Anyway, I had been too busy with other matters and did not have the time and concentration to do anything more than answer mails, so I delayed the presentation of these songs until I finally found time to look for a suitable cover in another reality, upload it and thought up a way to psychologically prepare the visitors of this site not to start writing comments of protest because the songs are not complete.
Complete or not, these two tracks are among the best that Alda has recorded.
So cool and easy…

Stop complaining about the missing beginnings (and have faith that maybe someone will eventually send us the complete tracks one of these days) while listening to:

1. …Samba Triste (Baden Powell / Billy Blanco)
2. …Tome Continha de Você (Dolores Duran / Édson Borges)

RGE XRLP-5211

As I announced yesterday, here is the second career album by Alda Perdigão, a re-post from Parallel Realities Studio with the original text as written a few years ago:

When I told Edson Mendes that I liked the previous album by Alda Perdigão he sent me very much, he lost no time. This morning’s mail brought this album from 1962.

Alda Perdigao (1961)

RCA BBL-1131

ABOUT ALDA PERDIGÃO by Edson Mendes:

NEWS ABOUT ALDA PERDIGÃO by Milan Filipović:

Afonso Duarte, the son of the great singer Alda Perdigão, and me have become friends several years ago, shortly after he noticed on Parallel Realities Studio both career albums and several compactos by his mother Alda, who, like so many great artists from Brazil, was at the time almost completely forgotten even in her own country, so that the fact that she has fans in Belgrade, Serbia was quite a surprise for him.
A short time ago Alda Perdigão opened with Afonso's help a fan page on Facebook, which is fortunately accessible also for people (like myself) who do not have a Facebook account, so I could enjoy it as soon as he told me about it and sent me the link:

I am taking this opportunity to thank Alda and Afonso for prominently mentioning Parallel Realities Studio in the first post on the fan page and to re-post some music by Alda, starting with her first career album from 1961 received by Edson Mendes.

The tracks:

01. Samba do Bom  (Sidney Moraes)
02. Brancura (Denis Brean - O. Guilherme)
03. Quando A Esperança Vai Embora (Tito Madi)
04. Chorou, Chorou (Luiz Antonio)

M. Renato and His Brazilian Orchestra - O Balanco E A Bossa

Egal EDL-P 5030

Now something mysterious:
A certain gentleman, hiding probably under the incomplete name of M. Renato, leader of His Brazilian Orchestra, is conducting an album about which I know only what is written on the cover and labels: Nothing, except the names of the compositions and the names of the composers.

Now the detective work, or guessing, may begin:

First of all, the music sounds as music performed by professionals and conducted by renowned maestros usually sounds, which leads to the assumption (strengthened by the fact that the name of the orchestra is written in English) of a project targeting foreign public and that M. Renato is probably one of the Bob Flemings, Tito Romeros or Cid Grays.

The choice of compositions is prominent and well represents Brazilian music, appears as also aimed at audience outside of Brazil:

01. Tico-Tico No Fubá (Zequinha de Abreu)
02. Samba Fantástic (Zezinho / J. Manzon / L. Autuori)
03. Aquarela do Brasil (Ary Barroso)
04. Na Baixa do Sapateiro (Ary Barroso)
05. Não Tenho Lágrimas (Max Bulhões / M. de Oliveira)
06. Copacabana (João de Barro / Alberto Ribeiro)
07. O Barquinho (Ronaldo Bôscoli / Roberto Menescal)
09. Recado (Djalma Ferreira / Vinicius de Moraes)
10. Voсê e Eu (Сarlos Lуra / Viniсius de Moraes)
11. Samba da Minha Terra (Dorival Caymmi)
12. Oba-Lá-Lá (João Gilberto)

The essential question remains unanswered:

WHO IS M. RENATO?

Créditos: Pedro & 300discos

SHERLOCK HOLMES' FIRST CLUES by Frank-Oliver:
The same cover was used for the LP "Conjunto Masterplay - O Balanco e a Bossa" but the track list is different. Another album by M.Renato called "Samba Exportacao" (Egal EDL-P.5.023) has the same cover as the Juarez album "Bossa Nova nos States" also on the Masterplay label, but the track list also differs. I have to check, if the recordings also came from the Juarez sessions.

SHERLOCK HOLMES' IDENTIFICATION OF THE ORCHESTRA by Frank-Oliver:
The tracks 01-06 seem to come from the album Os Saxsambistas Brasileiros "Percussao em Festa" for Plaza, the other tracks from the LP Os Saxsambistas Brasileiros "Bossa Nova Espetacular" also for Plaza.
Both albums were posted at Loronix and also on Órfãos do Loronix.

DR. WATSON'S DILEMMA by Milan Filipović:
Could it be that M. Renato is one of the listed arrangers on Bossa Nova Espectacular (or both of them): José Pacheco Lins or / and Henrique Gandelman?

Conjunto Bossa Jeca - Samba Jeca (1963)

RCA Victor BBL 1255

About the existence of Conjunto Bossa Jeca I knew nothing until I found this (only?) album they recorded (under this name at least) inside the latest package sent by Pedro & 300discos.

I still do not know much more about this conjunto, except that it was apparently led by Chiquinho do Acordeom who plays, besides his usual instrument, also organ and that the arrangements are by José Menezes.

All compositions were written by José Messias, who is also the author of the text on the back cover which is mainly about the musical style presented, but does not credit the instrumentalists nor the vocalists.

With due respect to texts about music in general, I sincerely believe that the best explanation possible about any musical style can be obtained in a simple, pleasant and unbeatable way: By listening to:

01. Samba Jeca (José Messias)
02. Já Deu Meia-noite (José Messias)
03. Vergonha de Ficar (José Messias)
04. Canção de Sofrer (José Messias)
05. Não Diga a Ninguém (José Messias)
06. Saudade da Saudade (José Messias)
07. Madrugada e Amor (José Messias)
08. Dorme (José Messias)
09. Vez de Voar (José Messias)
10. Maria do Mau Fim (José Messias)
11. Sereno (José Messias)

I received this album from Pedro & 300discos a long time ago, but was reluctant to post it for the usual reason: It was available on another site. As far as I see it is not available anymore, so I am doing it now.

Formandos de 1966 - Estamos Aí! (1966)

Simonetti Gravações LP-100

A various artists type of recording done for Simonetti Gravações a only one of the kind (at least so i looks to me) venture of Maestro Simonetti as record manufacturer. It was recorded, as far as I understood the Portuguese text on the back cover, as an invitation for a Baile de Formatura taking place on the 9-12-1966 at the Rotary Club de São Paulo. The performers are listed alongside each track while the orchestras accompanying them are led by Zézinho da T.V. and Luiz Arruda Paes.

What Walt Disney's crazy inventor was inventing at that time, as well as why he is prominently displayed on the front cover at all (where one would expect Zézinho, Luiz Arruda Paes, both of them, or at least a good looking girl), I don't know, but sooner or later, the answer will hopefully arrive in form of a comment...

While waiting, enjoy these tracks:

01. Arrastão (Edu Lobo / Vinicius de Moraes) - Carlos Piper
02. Sevilha Mambo (Juan Amadeu) - Arley e Sua Orquestra Melódica
03. Au Privave (Charlie Parker) - Biriba Boys
04. Exodus (Ernest Gold) - Peruzzi e Sua Orquestra
05. Consolação (Baden Powel / Vinicius de Moraes) - Birutas do Ritmo
06. Abre-Te Sézamo (Marques / Molina) - Simonetti Ritmos
07. O Morro Não Tem Vez (A.C.Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes) - Consolação (Baden Powel / Vinicius de Moraes)   -  Terra de Ninguém (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle) - Primitivos Brasileiros
08. The Song is You (Kern / Hammerstein) - Zézinho da TV, Luiz Arruda Paes Coral e Cordas
09. Garota Moderna (Jair Amorim / Evaldo Gouveia) - Orquestra Excelsior
10. Fascinação (F.Marcheti) - Orquestra Excelsior

LAMENT by Milan Filipović; Looks like Augusto TM is publishing the good looking girls, while I have Disney's figures on the front covers.
Too bad! Unfortunately, no chance to ever get the "18+" warning while entering Parallel Realities.
I am strongly considering the opening of another site for mature audience with a prominent ADULTS ONLY - AUSWEIS BITTE! warning on the front page.

Dupla Ouro e Prata - Dupla Sensacao (1958)

RGE XRLP 5029

Dalva de Andrade - Prece (1964)

Odeon MOFB 3400

I took a short trip into another reality for a check and found that all albums by Dalva de Andrade have links that work, except for this one.

I wondered why it was deleted from server and realized that it is because of a bonus track added by Edson Mendes where Dalva is singing background vocals on one track taken from an album by Luiz Bonfa.

So, instead of just correcting the link, I eliminated the bonus track and decided to post it in the reality in which anybody reading this text is residing.

Included in the package was a:

REVIEW by Edson Mendes: As usual, Dalva singing is superb and the repertoire is all dedicated to the famous Brazilian composer Marino Pinto. Elizeth Cardoso had also recorded a long-play entirely dedicated to Marino’s compositions (“Magnífica” – Copacabana CLP 11123). Some of the tunes are present in the two records (as Reverso, Renúncia, Velha praça), and so it is possible to compare the interpretations of these two wonderful singers.
Completing, the orchestra is arranged and conducted by Lyrio Panicalli, one of the greatest Brazilian maestros.

The package also included these compositions:

01. Prece (Marino Pinto / Vadico)
02. Reverso (Marino Pinto / Gilberto Milfont)
03. Velha Praça (Mário Rossi / Marino Pinto)
04. Se o Tempo Entendesse (Marino Pinto / Mário Rossi)

For me and others who do not know anything about the Rouxinois here is the list of the singers. A few more words about them may be found on the back cover.

Tito Romero Com Orquestra de Cordas - Sambas Maravilhosas (1959)

Polydor LPNG 4032

When searching for singer Zézinho one has to take in account that and endless number of various Zézinhos will appear and that it will take patience, skill and luck to fish out THE Zézinho one is looking for.

Well, that is an old story and I have pointed out this problem in another time and another reality.

When searching for piano player João Leal Brito the procedure is the exact opposite: Typing João Leal Brito into the search box leads immediately to piano player João Leal Brito and that's where the above mentioned opposite problem begins. Almost daily I discover false names under which João Leal Brito is hiding. So far there have been: First of all Britinho (a deminutive of his real name), Pierre Kolmann (the mysterious Frenchman), Franca Villa (the Mexican revolucionário) and now another one of his false identities appeares:
This time, he is signed as Tito Romero (former president of former Yugoslavia).

Who knows who he will be next...

While brainstorming about this matter, enjoy Tito's renditions of:

01. Laura (João de Barro / Alcyr Pires Vermelho)
02. Quisera (Waldir Machado / Bené Guimarães)
03. Por Causa de Você (Tom Jobim / Dolores Duran)
04. A Grande Verdade (Luis Bittencourt / Marlene)

The final 10' LP to be posted from the Trio Surdina package sent by Alfredo Del-Penho...

There were actually two more 10' LPs inside the package, but they did not pass Depositfile's Audible Magic's proprietary audio content fingerprinting technology check. Sorry about that, but there it is...

Trio Surdina - 10' (1954)

Musidisc M-017

This 10' by Trio Surdina has already been posted on various sites, but all transfers had the same problem: As the vinyl was heavily scratched, the heavy cleaning which was applied removed also a good part of the sound's frequencies leaving it rather hollow and metallic.
This rip by Alfredo Del-Penho from a bit noisy (but not too scratched) vinyl has no cleaning at all, so finally it is possible to hear the instruments as they really sound (with some background noise which is not too disturbing)

The tracks are:

Lado A MD-131
01. Ay, ay, ay (O. P. Freire)
02. Vingança (Lupicínio Rodrigues)
03. Amoroso (Garoto, L. Bittencourt)
04. Verlaine (Charles Trenet)

Lado B MD-132
05. Canto Karabali (E. Lecuona)
06. Meu Coração (Garoto)
07. Cow Cow Boogie (Don Raye, G. De Paul, B. Carter)
08. Xodó (J. Amorim, J. M. Abreu)
