Sexteto Plaza - Festival de Ritmos (1958)

Sinter SLP 1756

A premiere of Sexteto Plaza on Parallel Realities or a continuation of previously posted Trio Plaza (1956, featuring Luisinho Eça) and precedent of Plaza Internacional Orchestra (1962) maybe?

Or is only the name of the hotel, bar, restaurant or whatever Plaza might be, the only connection?

The text on the back cover of this album (first of altogether three + 78 rpms covering 1958 - 1959) written by Ari Vasconcelos, Presidente do Clube dos Cronistas de Disco presents us with an interesting sounding recipe for a cocktail called baba de moça and uses the rest of the space on the back cover to explain also the essential ingredients of a successful recipe for para dançar music, but gives no answer to the obvious questions:

1. Who is the girl on the front cover?
2. What and where is the Plaza?
3. Who are the musicians?

Fortunately the track listing is present:

1. Yo Tengo Una Muñeca (Juanito Tremble)
Covarde (Getúlio Macedo / Lourival Faissal)
    Ay Cosita Linda (Pacho Galan)

2. L'edera (Merci) (Saverio Seracini / Vincenzo D'Acquisto)
    Fascination (Fermo Dante Marchetti)
Incerteza (Eduardo Patané / Di Veras)

3. É Tão Gostoso Seu Moço (Chocolate / Mário Lago)
    Mocinho Bonito (Billy Blanco)
Sou Baiana (Luis Bittencourt / Tuiu)

4. Cachito (Consuelo Velasquez)
    Meu Sonho (Pedroca)
Interesseira (Bidú Reis / Murillo Latini)

5. Se Alguém Disse (Newton Teixeira / Arnô Canegal / Arnaldo Paes)
É Luxo Só (Ary Barroso / Luis Peixoto)
Mal-Me-Quer (Cristóvão de Alencar / Newton Teixeira)

Nozinho e Sua Musica - Para O Seu Prazer... (1956)

Copacabana CLP 3069

A premiere of Nôzinho on Parallel Realities happens in form of his first album (a 10' LP) out of altogether three + four 78 rpms, covering the period from 1954 to 1959. At least, that is the information I picked up from Memoria Musical.
A try to find out more about Nôzinho and the muscians that are accompanying him by reading the back cover showed an unexpected result: Absolutely nothing. On the other hand the back cover clearly states the name of the girl decorating the front cover (+ presents a list called: OUTROS SUCESSOS COPACABANA)

While looking at the cover, this time knowing the name of the model, enjoy:

1. Não Tem Solução (Dorival Caymmi / Carlos Guinle) Samba-canção
2. Eterna Melodia (Pachequinho / J. R. de Oliveira) Choro-canção
3. Rojão de Cangaceiro (Nozinho) Rojão

5. Orgulho (Nelson Wederkind / Waldir Rocha) Samba-canção
6. Fume Um Cigarro (Victor Simon / David Raw) Samba-canção

I wonder if it could be Nozinho Feitosa as described in this article.
At least, the featured soloist on this nicely oldfashioned album plays the clarinet, too.

Roberto Coura e Conjunto - Bailes Memoraveis (1965)

Astor ALP-015

The only (?) album by organ player Roberto Coura and his conjunto as a premiere on Parallel Realities.
As much as I try, I can't restrain from expressing my impression after listening to this album countless times ever since I unpacked it from the package received from Pedro & 300discos:

It is simply fascinating!

If you think that the main reason for this exaltation is the newly discovered cantora Maristela, you are right. But it is not only her superb voice and way of singing but also the conjunto's backing with beautiful, discrete conversations between Roberto's organ and Dante's violin, for example on the San Remo flaired Al Di La or on the spectacular Busto Calado...

Needless to say that I started an immediate search for more by Maristela and Roberto Coura, with, unfortunately, thin results: A Maristela (if that is the same one) has 1953 sung on one track of Eu Sou O Baião - Seleções de Humerto Teixeira, while Roberto Coura has recorded an album called Vamos Ao Baile for Golden Records, but it turned out to be a re-edition of the album presented here.

Now the usual question in such cases:

Does anyone have more information?

While shrugging your shoulders in ignorance, read the list of musicians:

Roberto Coura: Órgão
Waldir: Pistom
Mineirinho: Sax tenor
Dante: Violino, Saxofone, Clarinete
Wilson: Ritmo
Clodoaldo: Violão
Argento: Bateria
Corvino: Trombone
Nefe: Contrabaixo
Maristela: Crooner

While waiting for somebody else to tell us more, enjoy:

01. Tema Para Dois (Nazário Cordeiro / Damásio José)
02. Scapricciatiello (Pacifico Vento / Ferdinando Albano) com Maristela
03. Canção Irlandeza (Fritz Kreisler)
04. Mala (Oscar Kinleiner) com Maristela
05. Um Chorinho na Broadway (Roberto Coura)
06. My Prayer (Mi Oración) (Georges Boulanger)
07. Chopin's (Frédéric Chopin)
08. Al Di La (Mogol / Carlo Donida) com Maristela
09. Doce de Coco (Jacob do Bandolim)
10. Love Is A Many Splendored Thing (Paul Francis Webster / Sammy Fain)
11. Peter Gunn (Henry Mancini)
12. Busto Calado (Rubens Silva / Orlando Costa "Maestro Cipó") com Maristela

Quinteto de Dalton - Musica Na Madrugada (1959)

Internacional CID 27005

I am posting now the second album from my Santa Claus list, kindly included in the current package by Pedro & 300discos.

Guerra Peixe e Orquestra - O Rei da Valsa (Johann Strauss) (1959)

Chantecler CMG 1003

A mail correspondence with friend Fausto Neves, an admirer of Maestro Guerra Peixe, about his music and music for gafieras in general, resulted in his sending me some albums by and featuring Guerra Peixe he found on the net and which were not present in my collection.

Here is an extract from one of his mails:

"Cesar Guerra-Peixe was an important Brazilian composer, music professor, arranger and conductor.
Even as a composer of concert music, he worked a lot as musical director, arranger and composer for film music.
He also worked with radio stations orchestras and orchestras of popular dance halls.
In Brazil these dance halls are called gafieiras.

The Lps included here (such as those you have) are best examples of the music for gafieiras."

IDENTIFICATION by Edson Mendes:

This "unknown singer" is Aloysio de Oliveira, which was the leader of the "Bando da Lua" group (that accompanied Carmen Miranda in USA) and the owner of Elenco label, specialized in Bossa Nova records.
At the time of the release of this LP Aloysio was the director of Odeon - maybe this explains why he is not identified as the singer (in this and other records).

Ted Moreno Em Quatro Tempos (1965)

Philips P 632 750 L

I received from friend Edson Mendes an album by a singer about whose existence I was aware, but have never heard his singing before: Ted Moreno,

Accompanying the album was a mail by Edson out of which I am re-printing here an excerpt:

"One of your last postings (Roberto Luna) animated me to send this record to you. Ted Moreno is (in my opinion) one of the most underrated Brazilian singers. He's very talended also as a composer and musician. To me, his voice reminds of Silvio Caldas, another great and almost forgotten singer."

This is, by the way, his latest career album out of (as far as I know) altogether five. Enjoy his truly great voice singing::

01. Carnaval de Saudade (Ted Moreno)
02. Consolação (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes)
03. Amor Sem Dono (Ted Moreno / Maria Isabel)
04. Ressurreição dos Velhos Carnavais (Lamartine Babo)
05. Vem (Ted Moreno / Maria Isabel)
06. Capoeira Moça Bem (Jacobina / Osmar Navarro)

Two (to me) unknown piano players, Lauro Araujo & Lucas Vieira, backed by conjunto have their premiere on Parallel Realities with their (only?) LP recorded at an unknown date for Radio.

Orlando Ferri e Orquestra - Baile das Debutantes (1959)

Chantecler CMG 2025

There is not much more I can say about Maestro Orlando Ferri  than what I read on the back cover which, despite the long text written by the art director Diego Mulero, says almost nothing about him or the instrumentalists and voices that are part of his orchestra, but simply describes him as very popular and states the obvious fact: His music is purely para dancar. Additional information found on Memoria Musical is that this LP appeares to be his only career album beside a 78 rpm released in 1953.

Enjoy Orlando Ferri performing this repertoire:

Now, something quite different: Another copyright problem presents itself with this Carnaval Antigo from 1954 by renowned artists Emilinha Borba, Gilberto Milfont and Jorge Goulart.
The side A has been included on the disc A Rádio Nacional e Seus Ídolos de Auditório (1977 Continental 1.19.405.032)
Needless to stress the fact that because of it, half of this recording is copyrighted (side A), while the other half (side B) is not.

So, this half-gift includes only the side B. Sorry, but there it is.

Nonato - O Som e O Balanco de Nonato (1975)

Som/Copacabana SOLP 40670

Here is the complete, previously two times by Depositfiles' checker rejected album by Nonato.
Well, it is quite a mystery: This time I uploaded the individual tracks to identify thus the eventual Polar Bear or several of such.
But, all files, uploaded two days ago, are still intact and stored on server. How it is possible, I don't know, but the only way to present this album to you is the tremendously popular file by file download method. To circumvent the long waiting times between downloads, it is usually enough to switch of your modem and switch it on after that. This changes, in most cases, your IP address.

Enjoy the individual downloads and enjoy after that pleasure these tracks:

Nonato e Seu Conjunto (1974)

Som/Copacabana SOLP 40518

Piano player Nonato has (with his conjunto, of course) a premiere on Parallel Realities.

This is his first career album out of (as far as I know) altogether four.

The second one, from 1975 was sent to me some time ago by Pedro & 300discos but for some mysterious reason it got rejected two times by Depositfiles's checker.
I am using this opportunity to check why exactly that happened and, while I am writing this text, each individual track is analysed for digital fingerprints. If the polar bear tracks get identified this way, I post this LP but will not include the polar bears in the package.

This album, fortunately complete, sounds quite international and reminds of the music generally played in Europe during that particular period but it has a distinctive Brazilian note.

And a special curiosity (from my point of view) is that one of the musicians from the front cover picture completely bears a striking resemblance to someone I know very well.

Who exactly it might be from this list I do not know, but here it is:

Nonato (Piano)
Pitomba (Baixo)
Oberdan (Guitarra)
José (Vibrafone)
Walter (Crooner)
Chico do Zuca (Sax tenor)
Vavá (Piston)
Garrincha (Bateria)
Piu-Piu (Guitarra base)

The songs:

01. Bisavô (Cleto Júnior / Oberdan Oliveira)
02. Fitipaldiando (Oberdan Oliveira)
03. Cavala-canga (Sérgio Habibe)
04. Sou Feliz (Oberdan Oliveira)

Uccio Gaeta - O Novo Som de Uccio Gaeta (1968)

Chantecler CMG 2500

The first impression when stumbling upon Uccio Gaeta while unpacking the package from Pedro & 300discos was that it is an album by a gaeta player unknown to me whose real first name is Uccio.
Of course, I was proved wrong. Uccio Gaeta is a multiinstrumentalist whose origin, according to his name, I would place somewhere in Italy, probably Sicily where, according to his name, might also be the birthplace of Mario Albanese, as Sicily was largely inhabited by Albanian folks.
Also, Mario Albanese is prominently featured, together with Uccio, as composer on this album.
More about Uccio, together with a list of instruments he played, you may read on the back cover in a tightly packed text by Armando Blundi Bastos.

The medleys performed are listed here and you may enjoy them after clicking upon the usually cryptic text under the list:

01. No Balanço do Jequibau (Mário Albanese / Ciro Pereira)
Jequibau (Mário Albanese / Ciro Pereira)
Gamboa (Ciro Pereira / Mário Albanese)

02. Viola Enluarada (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sérgio Valle)
Um Amor Sem Igual (Mário Albanese / Ciro Pereira)

03. Bom Tempo (Chico Buarque)
      Até Segunda-Feira (Chico Buarque)
Lapinha (Baden Powell / Paulo César Pinheiro)

04. Esta Tarde Vi Llover (Armando Manzanero)
      Habla Me (Armando Manzanero)

05. Januária (Chico Buarque)
Areia e Mar (Mário Albanese / Uccio Gaetta)
      Serenata Em Teleco-Teco (Gilberto Gil)

06. A Flor Que o Tempo Guardou (Mário Albanese / Uccio Gaetta)
Tristeza de Amor (Mário Albanese / Uccio Gaetta)

07. Inno (John Carter / Ken Lewis / Mogol)
L'Ultima Cosa (Luciano Beretta / Umberto Balsamo)
Você Não Serve Pra Mim (Renato Barros)

REVIEW AND + by Bossanov:
It's really great happy Hammond sound! Slightly similar to Wilson das Neves' "Juventude 2000" and other dancing music of that time. Almost all of the crew are real "Os Cobras"!
Add some info about Fernando - he is Fernando Jorge Semi Maxnuk (or Maxnuck), member of Zumba Cinco, also working witn Leny Andrade in Rio, Bossa e Balanço show (Mario Castro Neves, piano; Fernando Maxnuk, vibrafone; Edson Lobo, contrabaixo;e Antonio Carlos Leite, bateria) and with Orlandivo.
