ALMIRA DO PANDEIRO

Créditos: Pedro & 300discos

ALMIRA CASTILHO by Edson Mendes:
Almira Castilho
was a singer, songwriter and Brazilian dancer. She was Jackson's partner (and also his wife) in compositions and performances on the radio, TV and films.
She began her artistic career in 1954, joining the chorus in the recording of "Sebastiana" by Jackson do Pandeiro.
During her career she wrote more than 30 songs. With Jackson, she wrote hits as "1 x 1", "A mulher de Aníbal" and "Forró em Limoeiro", but her biggest success was "Chiclete com banana" written with singer and composer Gordurinha. This song was recorded by many artists as Odete Amaral, Jackson do Pandeiro, Gilberto Gil, Gordurinha, Carmélia Alves and Zé Ramalho, among others.

Radames Gnattali Em Ritmo de Samba (1958)

Continental LPP 3010

One of the most famous figures in Brazilian music, composer, arranger and piano player Radamés Gnattali was featured in this as well as in the previous parallel reality, but as far as I can remember not with a complete, his only, career album, the nearest to that being the two weeks ago presented Retratos, a joint venture with Jacob do Bandolim.

Now here it is finally: Em Ritmo de Samba from 1958.

With:

01. Atire A Primeira Pedra (Ataulfo Alves / Mário Lago)
02. Fim de Semana Em Paquetá (João de Barro / Alberto Ribeiro)
03. Copacabana (João de Barro / Alberto Ribeiro)
04. Agora É Cinza (Alcebíades Barcelos "Bide" / Armando "Marçal")
05. Já É Demais o Meu Sofrer (Alcebíades Barcelos "Bide" / Armando "Marçal")
06. Vem Meu Amor (Norival Reis / Adelino Moreira)
07. Duas Contas (Garoto)
08. O Morro Canta Assim (Norival Reis / José Batista)
09. Foi A Noite (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça)
10. Nova Ilusão (José Menezes / Luis Bittencourt)
11. Quem Foi Que Prometeu (José Menezes / Jorge Murad)
12. Esquina da Saudade (Radamés Gnattali / Chiquinho do Acordeom)

Almos everything you wanted to know about Radamés Gnattali but were afraid to ask, you may read on the back cover text.

Here is just one detail from his personal life: While searching for more songs by Nelly Martins I learned that she was married to Radamés Gnattali and that they have recorded an album together which I did not have an opportunity to listen to but in the textual description I read that, instead of singing, Nelly is also playing piano so we have 4 hands on one piano, but not Nelly's sensual vocal, which is from my point of view, as you might have guessed, not a good idea. Anyway, a link to one of Nelly's compactos found in another reality is still working and you still can hear her voice if you have not already done so. Just click HERE.

To get Radamés' solo album click on the usual, not always understandable text.

All Giffer e Seu Conjunto de Dancas - Parada em Copacabana(1959)

Chantecler CMG 2042

Presenting for the first time All Giffer organist (or is he maybe the guitar player?) and leader of a dance music quintet.

As you have already guessed, about All Giffer I can tell you even less than the back cover text by Almeida does, as it is partially damaged and not all is legible.

Anyway, the album sounds very interesting and was (I suppose) very avant garde for 1959, + decorated with occasional background meows by a female choir.

Is All Giffer All Giffer or somebody else recording for Chantecler under the false name of All Giffer?

No idea, but it seems that this is All's only recording.

Enjoy it, now that you have an opportunity to do so:

01. O Apito no Samba (Luiz Bandeira / Luis Antônio)
02. No Meio da Noite (Aloísio Figueiredo / José Marques da Costa)
03. Passeando Pela Rua (A. F. Cerqueira / N. F. Cerqueira)

This 10' collaboration of Dj Haroldo Eiras, Neuza Maria and  João Leal Brito "Britinho" has been already presented a long time ago on the great Toque Musical.
Here this album reappears in form of a Pedro transfer with his cover scans.

Chiquinho do Acordeom - Valsas, Polcas E Outra Coisas (1961)

Odeon MOFB 3251

Another until now missing album from Chiquinho's discography: Valsas, Polcas e Outras Coisas from '61 brought to us as courtesy of Pedro & 300discos.

The reform of Portuguese spelling in Brazil has multiplied the list of musicians in Brazil at least by two. A good example is Chiquinho do Acordeom, who became also another (additional) musician: Chiquinho do Acordeon (or was it vice-versa?).
Could it be that the secret meaning of two Chiquinhos on the front cover of this Lp is: Chiquinho do Acordeom and Chiquinho do Acordeon united on and for Odeon?

Note that the "do Acordeom/n is nowhere explicitly printed on the covers. It is just Chiquinho.

If you know how, dance to:

01. Maria Bonita (Agustín Lara)
02. São Paulo Quatrocentão (Garoto / Chiquinho do Acordeom / Avaré)
03. Viva Caruarú (Chiquinho do Acordeom / Radamés Gnattali)

Francisco Moraes e Sua Orquestra - Sucessos de Adelino Moreira (1961)

RCA Victor BBL 1153

Francisco Moraes has been presented for the first time on Parallel Realities a short time ago with his first career album.

At that time I knew that he was a maestro and arranger but thought that his main instrument was the piston (as the front cover is covered with a giant piston) and that he is also playing piano, as the back cover has a small photograph of him next to his piano.

Now here he is again with a tribute to composer Adelino Moreira as orchestra leader, arranger and piano player.

To the confusion are adding also two texts on the back cover, the first (and longer one) written by Ramalho Neto and another (shorter) signed with Julio Nagib.

The tracks are all composed by Adelino Moreira:

01. A Volta do Boêmio (Adelino Moreira)
02. Maria Helena (Adelino Moreira)
03. Deusa do Asfalto (Adelino Moreira)
04. Devolvi (Adelino Moreira)
05. Chore Comigo (Adelino Moreira)

Durval Ribeiro e Seu Conjunto - Daqui e Dali (1959)

Copacabana CLP 11127

Yes, it's true: It is Odysséa!

My assumption, when presenting her for the first time on  Aloysio e Seus Teclados - Bon Voyage (1960) less than half a year ago, was that the two compositions she sang were her complete recorded opus, fortunately got proven wrong!

This only (?) album, by, to me previously unknown, Durival Ribeiro, recorded a year earlier than Bon Voyage is subtitled Apresentando a cantora Odysséa, a fact from which I am intelligently deducting that this might be her first record and the track list enables me to make another intelligent deduction:

She is singing on four tracks of:

01. Daqui e Dali (Durval Ribeiro)
02. Sweetly (Docemente) (Herve Cordovil) com Odysséa
03. Meu Tema (Hervé Cordovil)
04. Eu Sei Que Vou Te Amar (A. C. Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes) com Odysséa
05. Garoto Travesso (Bisoca)
06. Você (Mario Albanese / Heitor Carillo)
07. Toselli no Samba (Toselli)
08. Hymne À L'Amour (Edith Piaf / Marguerite Monnot) com Odysséa
09. Mestiça (Bisoca)
10. Suas Mãos (Antonio Maria / Pernambuco) com Odysséa
11. Harlem Noturno (Earle Hagen / Dick Rogers)
12. Fita Amarela (Noel Rosa)

10. Noite Pura (Edman Ayres de Abreu) Paulo Villela
11. Pedido a Papai Noel (Jorge Duarte) Nelson Luis
12. Não Toquem Sinos (Fiorella) Nilcéia

As you could have guessed, I have immediately tried to find other music by Nilcéia as her voice on the one song she is performing here sounds quite interesting. The results were poor: A not so good sounding Carnaval song from '74 can be heard on YouTube and a 78 rpm with two compositions is mentioned on Memoria Musical.

Victor Pilla Orquestra - Brazilian New Sound (1969)

Polydor LPNG 44.027

The only album by the Victor Pilla Orquestra, about which I can tell you as much or even less than you can tell me, as there is a possibility that, maybe, you have at least heard about them, or know something, while I have never heard about them nor do I know anything except for what might be deducted from the track list and front cover (which is less revealing than the back cover, but the back cover, although more revealing than the front cover gives no more facts or information than the unrevealing front cover does).

Confused? Download the album and take a look at the back cover...

After, the "Aaaaaah, I could have guessed!", unpack also the music and enjoy:

01. Correnteza (Antônio Adolfo / Tibério Gaspar)

Altamiro Carrilho (1955)

Copacabana CLP 2019

The list of flautist and composer Altamiro Carrilho's career albums, participations, 78 rpms etc is quite huge indeed.

Here we have something which looks like a real rarity: His first album, a 10' Lp compilation released in 1955, with 8 tracks spanning the period from 1949 - 55 previously released on the 78 rpm format.

The list

1. Flauteando na Chacrinha (Altamiro Carrilho / Ari Duarte) Choro
    78rpm: Star 118 / 1949

2. Ziza (Altamiro Carrilho) Xote
    78rpm: 5253 / 1954

3. Saliente (Altamiro Carrilho / Armando Nunes) Choro
    78rpm: 5063 / 1953

4. Jabuti (Hélio Latini / Murillo Latini) Choro

6. Travessuras do Sergio (Altamiro Carrilho)  Choro

Tito Romero e Sua Orquestra - Choros Maravilhosos (1959)

Polydor LPNG 4047

The fourth album by João Leal Brito "Britinho" recorded under the name of Tito Romero is presented today on Parallel Realities.

A previous quick checking my collection showed that there is just one more missing Lp to complete Britinho's Tito Romero discography, while the Al Brito and Franca Villa collections (consisting, as far as I know, of only 1 album each) are completed...

So is the Pierre Kolmann 10 albums discography.

On the other hand, if my listing is correct, 6 more albums which João Leal Brito "Britinho" has recorded as João Leal Brito "Britinho" or just "Britinho" have so far not appeared anywhere on the net.

But with the secrecy surrounded piano player, all kind of surprises are possible and therefore to be expected. Like another false name of which nobody was aware of...

Enjoy:

01. Um A Zero (Pixinguinha / Benedito Lacerda)
02. Bem-Te-Vi Atrevido (Lina Pesce)
03. Foguete (Radamés Gnattali)
04. Mágoas do Ney (Pedrosa)
05. Brincando Com Chopin (Pernambuco)
06. Fumaça (J. C. Mesquita)
07. Apanhei-te Cavaquinho (Ernesto Nazareth)
08. Flamengo (Bonfíglio de Oliveira)
09. Chorando Devagar (Joel de Almeida)
10. Murmurando (Fon-Fon / Mário Rossi)
11. Velhos Tempos (Dermeval Fonseca)
12. Marabá (Romeu Fossati)

Marisa Gata Mansa, Ernani Filho e Carminha Mascarenhas - Em Cada Estrela Uma Cancao (1961)

Copacabana CLP 11191

Any pretext to post or re-post anything by Marisa Gata Mansa is, from my point of view, a good pretext:
Now we have finally a Pedro transfer from a cleaner disc than the previous one posted here, so I am sure all hard-core Marisa, Carminha, Ernâni, and, of course, composer Newton Mendonça's fans have a reason to open a bottle of champagne again.

You may look up the previous post of this LP, with a list of musicians and a still working link to the Loronix copy of this album in another reality from which also a link leads to Zeca's original text about this tribute to composer Newton Mendonça.

Here is just the list of compositions and their respective performers:

01. Foi A Noite (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça) Ernâni Filho
02. Canção do Pescador (Newton Mendonça) Marisa Gata Mansa
03. Canção do Azul (Newton Mendonça) Marisa Gata Mansa
04. Só Saudade (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça) Ernâni Filho
05. Caminhos Cruzados (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça) Marisa Gata Mansa
06. Seu Amor, Você (Newton Mendonça) Marisa Gata Mansa
07. Luar e Batucada (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça) Ernâni Filho
08. Discussão (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça) Carminha Mascarenhas
09. Meditação (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça) Carminha Mascarenhas
10. O Tempo Não Desfaz (Newton Mendonça) Ernâni Filho
11. Desafinado (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça) Carminha Mascarenhas
12. Samba de Uma Nota Só (Tom Jobim / Newton Mendonça) Carminha Mascarenhas

REMARK by Silvestre:
