Don Pablito e Sua Orquestra - Rumbas Inolvidables Vol 3 (1964)

Polydor LPNG 4102

I don't dare to say that Don Pablito is for the first time on Parallel Realities as the blunder I made two posts ago when wrongly accusing Luis Reis to be an accordion player was quite sufficient for the usual "caught in ignorance again" episode for this week.

But let's see: The second volume of the Rumbas Inolvidables series by Polydor, posted on Parallel Realities, was performed by an unnamed orchestra led by an unnamed maestro...

Now on the third volume the maestro is credited as the famous Don Pablito, which sounds to me like a false name under which another famous maestro was recording for Polydor. Memoria Musical lists this LP as the first career album by Don Pablito, and mentions another one, where he performs boleros. Anyway, I suggest to read the text on the back cover yourselves and make your guess.

If I am right in this assumption or not will be, hopefully, cleared by someone who might know the inside story.

What is clear is that, as the previous volume was deleted from server after a short time, you better be quick to download this one as fast as you can, as, although the Depostifiles check went OK after upload, similar might happen again.

The rumbas are:

01. El Cumbanchero (Rafael Hernandez)
02. Danza Lucumi (Ernesto Lecuona)
03. Japanese Rhumba (J. Miller)
04. Rumba Rumba Rumba (Jean Pierre / Walgton F. Silva)
05. El Galito Kiki-riki (Adolfo Castro "Castrito")
06. Los Hijos de Buda (Rafael Hernandez)
07. La Mucura (Antônio Fuentes)
08. Llego El Carnaval (Angelito Guterrez)

10. Jungle Drums (Canto Karabali) (Ernesto Lecuona)

ABOUT STEVE BERNARD by Frank-Oliver:
Steve Bernard was born in Romania in 1915 and came to Brazil after living in Vienna.
Memoria Musical lists 12 albums for Steve Bernard e seu Conjunto from 1954 to 1962.on Odeon, Sinter, Philips, Continental, RCA.
Especially Ritmo Espetacular from 1962 (RCA) seems very interesting with a singer called Valeria.

Luis Reis e Seu Ritmo Contagiante - Samba de Balanco (1962)

Philips P 630.488 L

Accordion player Luis Reis has been recently presented for the first time on Parallel Realities with two compositions from first career album, Samba de Balanço, on the para dançar compilation Discoteca Dançante Nº 5.
Thanks to Pedro reading a comment by Frank-Oliver under the particular post, I am able to present the complete LP now.

More about balanço in general and the music on this LP can be read on the back cover text written by Haroldo Barbosa, the producer of this masterpiece.
More about the lady displayed on the front cover, is unfortunately omitted from his text.

Luis Reis has recorded, as far as I know, only one more album in 1964 together with João Roberto Kelly.

Dance to:

01. Devagar Com a Louça (Haroldo Barbosa / Luis Reis)
02. Moeda Quebrada (Luis Reis / Haroldo Barbosa)
03. Dança do Ban-zan-zan (Janet de Almeida / Chiquinho Storino)
04. Lamento da Lavadeira (Monsueto / Nilo Chagas / João Violão)
05. Palhaçada (Luis Reis / Haroldo Barbosa)
06. Boa Noite Rio (Haroldo Barbosa / Luis Reis)

08. Corcovado (Tom Jobim)
09. Que Samba Bom (Geraldo Pereira / Arnaldo Passos)
10. Adeus América (Geraldo Jacques / Haroldo Barbosa)
11. Onde Estava Eu (Armando Cavalcanti / Victor Freire)

Musical direction is by Carlos Monteiro de Souza.

CORRECTION by Edson Mendes:
Here's just one correction to be made: Luiz Reis is the piano player and the accordion is played (according to the text in the back cover) "by an encyclopedic musician, easily identifiable, however silent for contractual reasons". I guess he is Chiquinho do Acordeon, but I'm not sure...

QUESTION by Frank-Oliver:
Who are the singers on this album?

QUESTION by Milan Filipović:
Who is the lady on the front cover?

Ribamar - Quinteto Romantico - Bastante Intimo

Spot

This album by Ribamar, originally found on Loronix has at least three other editions of which two were already posted on Parallel Realities:

Nosso Encontro de Amor (Equipe EQC 853)
Duas Faces de Amor (Equipe EQ 804)
…Depois do Motel (Padrão 888.122)

There is one difference between Bastante Intimo and the other three: Ribamar and his conjunto are hidden behind the fictious Quinteto Romantico and it is released as MONO by Spot under a serial number and release date unknown to me.

You may ask yourself why I am posting another version of the same album and as expected I do not have a logical answer.

Maybe, just because it is there...

Anyway, the compositions are:

01. A Noite do Meu Bem (Dolores Duran)
02. Segredo (Herivelto Martins / Marino Pinto)
      Nunca (Lupicínio Rodrigues)
03. Duas Contas (Garoto)
      Dó-Ré-Mi (Fernando César)
04. Alguém Como Tu (José Maria de Abreu / Jair Amorim)
Não Tem Solução (Dorival Caymmi / Carlos Guinle)

Molambo (Jaime Florence "Meira" / Augusto Mesquita)
06. Canção de Amor (Chocolate / Elano de Paula)
Canção da Volta (Ismael Netto / Antônio Maria)
07. Não Tenho Você (Paulo Marques / Ari Monteiro)

Velhinhos Transviados - Os Netinhos dos Velhinhos Transviados (1970)

RCA Victor BBL 1509

The last post we had one Netinho and this time we have lots of them, having nothing better to do than play music surrounded by girls, judging by the front cover at least.

Well, I suppose that the music itself is played actually by José Menezes' Velhinhos Transviados, for the first time presented with a career album on Parallel Realities, also notorious for their behaviour displayed on the front covers of their recordings.

The songs are from the classical repertoire of the seventies ranging from the Gibb Brothers via the Midnight Cowboy theme to José Menezes himself:

01. Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye (Paul Leka / Gary DeCarlo / Dale Frashuer)
      Venus (Robbie Van Leeuwen)
02. My Pledge Of Love (Joe Stafford Jr.)
03. Everybody's Talkin' (Fred Neil)
04. Drunk Trumpet (José Menezes)
05. Ol' Man River (Jerome Kern / Oscar Hammerstein II)

Ribamar - Carinho e Amor - 10' (1960)

Parallel Realities Studio 2015

Around five years ago, in another reality, I posted the album: Tito Madi & Ribamar - Carinho e Amor received from Edson Mendes.

Some time later, somebody somewhere decided to reissue music by Tito Madi and started deleting albums with the, at that time, newly copyrighted tracks. As those who have been trying lately to download this LP noticed, instead of the download link under the above mentioned album, the absurd DOWNLOAD YESTERDAY advice has appeared.

As without the masterpieces by Ribamar on the deleted album, I have the unmistakeable feeling that his discography here is incomplete, so I started a trip through all those countless realities existing parallel to the one considered as the only one and finally found one of them where the six tracks performed by Ribamar were released on a separate career 10' LP, also dated 1960.

Note that in both realities the arrangements are by  Tito Madi, Lyrio Panicalli, Ribamar and Severino Filho. By coincidence the backing vocals are also by the Severino Filho Choral, including Os Cariocas:

In short: Another Parallel Realities Studio release containing:

Lado A:

01. Teu céu, minhas estrelas (Tito Madi)
02. Olhe-me, diga-me (Tito Madi)
03. Senhorita (Tito Madi)

Lado B:

04. Rio triste (Tito Madi)
05. Chove lá fora (Tito Madi)
06. Quero-te assim (Tito Madi)

Sylvio Vianna e Seu Conjunto Dancante - Mil e Uma Noites - Dancando No Cabaret Vol 1 (1959)

Imperial SIMP-30.237
Re-edição de Hoje A Noite É Sua (1959) Odeon MOFB 3105

With the previously posted album by Sylvion Vianna came the pleasant additional surprise in form of a previously to me unknown singer, Rosângela. I did some researching at that time to find more about her and found out that she is unmistakeably listed as singer on another two albums by Sylvio. If there is more of her singing I do not know, but I did not hesitate to add these two recordings to my Santa Claus wish list.

Santa Claus, mistaking me once more for a good boy, was quick to react:

In the currently downloading new package from Pedro & 300discos, I found the Imperial re-edition of one of those two albums and, as expected, Rosângela is singing three songs on this generally masterful album.

Strongly recommended:

01. Recado (Djalma Ferreira / Luis Antônio)
02. Non Dimenticar (Gino Redi / Michele Galdieri)
03. Smoke Gets In Your Eyes (Jerome Kern / Otto Harbach)
04. Intermezzo da ''Cavalleria Rusticana'' (Mascagni) 05. Sem Ti (Jair Amorim / Ronaldo Lupo) com Rosângela
06. Amor Secreto (Secret Love) (Paul Francis Webster / Sammy Fain / Vrs. Ghiaroni) com Rosângela
07. Mais Um Samba Pra Dançar (Cazuza)
08. Come Prima (Mario Panzeri / Sandro Taccani / Vincenzo Di Paola)
09. Piove (Domenico Modugno / Verde)
10. Amor (Silvio Viana)

Surprisingly, last nigts upload of two albums by Tito to Depositfiles went OK, so I am happy to present them here and now.
But, who knows what may happen in the next days

ADVICE: Don't wait until tomorrow to download this gem, as tomorrow you may find the absurd DOWNLOAD YESTERDAY text instead of the link.

Linda Rodrigues - Companheiras da Noite (1961)

Chantecler CMG 2119

Neon light atmosphere!

When I looked into the contents of the newest package sent to us by Pedro & 300discos (which is being downloaded to my PC as I write) I almost jumped up from my chair when I noticed that it contains Linda Rodrigues' only career album, Companheiras da Noite, which was featured on my Santa Claus list since the moment I created one.

If you are eager to know any of the spicy details about the life and career of Linda Rodrigues, don't even try to find them on the back cover as, apart from the track list, it contains only one crucial fact: Orq. e Conj. Reg.: Guerra Peixe, but that you already know by reading this text.
Try this link instead.

If you are interested in her 78 rpm recordings which count around 30, I can partially help with 1/3 by pointing to another reality in which two compilations of her 78 rpm tracks are located, (with renewed links, but also with a printing mistake on one of the covers).

While sorting out the so far created confusion, relax enjoying Linda' rendition of these compositions, where on 2/3 of them she was one of the composers:

01. Lama (Paulo Marques / Aylce Chaves)
02. Negue (Adelino Moreira / Enzo Almeida Passos)
03. Pedra No Caminho (Aldacir Louro / Linda Rodrigues)
04. Tião (Valdemar de Abreu "Dunga" / Jair Amorim)
05. Documento (Aldacir Louro / Linda Rodrigues)
06. Pó do Asfalto (Aldacir Louro / Linda Rodrigues / J. Portela)
07. Companheiras Da Noite (Linda Rodrigues / William Duba / Aylce Chaves)
08. Tenho Moral (Linda Rodrigues / Castelo)
09. Cigarra Noturna (Linda Rodrigues / Aldacir Louro / Genival Melo)
10. Escondida (Luis Arcaraz / Vrs. Martha de Almeida)
11. Final de Nosso Drama (Linda Rodrigues / Aldacir Louro)
12. Aquelas Mãos (Linda Rodrigues / Aldacir Louro)

ABOUT MIGUEL ÂNGELO by Mr Memory:

Mocambo LP 40369

Sax baritono and Vibrafone player Zezinho Mancini has his premiere on Parallel Realities together with his Golden Ten.

Luckily he is presented on his recording with his full name, as otherwise the already existing confusion about which Zezinho is which Zezinho would be unbearable.

Anyway, the sounds on this album are quite in accordance with the front cover: Pure para dançar at it's best, mostly consisting of international hits of the period.

Luckily, also the back cover offers a nice text about this Zezinho and his music, written by Julietta Jorge Saade.

Here is the list of the golden eleven:

Zezinho Mancini (Sax baritono, Vibrafone)
Wanderley Mancini (Guitarra, Crooner)
Antônio Bonutti (Órgão)
Altair (Trombone)
Artur (Sax tenor)
Zezito (Piston)
Agostinho (Contrabaixo)
Tiquinho (Bateria, Crooner)
Do Menor (Crooner)
Hércules e Jaime (Ritmo)

Presenting eleven hits:

01. Sunny (Bobby Hebb)
02. Noites de Moscou (Vassily Solovyov-Sedoy)
03. Ciao Amore Ciao (Luigi Tenco)
04. The Shadow Of Your Smile (Johnny Mandel / Paul Francis Webster)
05. The More I See You (Harry Warren / Mack Gordon)
06. Na Ginga do Samba (Carioca)
07. Music To Watch Girls By (Sid Ramin)
08. Coração de Papel (Sérgio Reis)
09. Black Is Black (Tony Hayes / Steve Wadey / Michelle Grainger)
10. Tiro no Escuro (Henry Mancini)

Lurdinha Pereira - Papeis Velhos (1961)

Chantecler CMG 2130

Another candy:

The second album out of the current package presents another, to me previously unknown cantora: Lurdinha Pereira has her premiere on Parallel Realities with her first album, out of 3 (?).

Chantecler's back cover text, written by Braz (Baccario, I suppose) is informative as usual and I recommend reading it.

While doing so, enjoy Lurdinha's specific voice singing:

ABOUT ROLANDO BOLDRIN by Edson Mendes:
As I didn't know this singer, I did some researches and discovered why so many Rolando Boldrin's songs are present in the disc repertoire: they were - and still are - married.
Rolando Boldrin is a very prominent character in Brazilian culture: singer, composer, researcher and music producer, actor, TV host, and he is brilliant in
all these activities!

ADDITIONAL by Milan Filipović:
Lurdinha Pereira's third album was released in 1980 and titled: Rolando Boldrin e Lurdinha Pereira - Giro-o-giro (Continental 1.01.404.23)

Silvio Vianna e Seu Conjunto de Dancas - Para Sua Festa (1958)

Copacabana CLP 11062

Sylvio Vianna I heard for the first time on Loronix, almost a decade ago when Zeca posted his Rio A Noite from 1963. All attempts at the time to find some more music by him have been fruitless and led me to the wrong conclusion that Rio A Noite (later re-posted in another reality, by the way) was his only career album.
As the newest package sent by Pedro & 300discos is gradually downloading to my PC, I fished out as first this album by Sylvio from 1958 wrapped in a completely fascinating cover and spiced with a pleasant surprise in the shape of a lady pleasantly singing on several tracks of this masterpiece (especially on Marimba).
At first (as it is an Copacabana release) I was afraid that she might not be credited, but she is, apparently due to the fact that, for a change, Sylvio Vianna has himself written the text on the back cover, and has been gentleman enough to mention her name: Rosângela. although the other members of his conjunto remained anonymous.
Luckily, once again I was proven wrong, this time in my assumption that Rio A Noite is Sylvio's only LP:
As I just found out, Sylvio (or Silvio) has recorded at least 8 career albums.

Whether dancing or not, you will enjoy:

01. Amor Proibido (Correia Lima / Depinto)
      Marimba (Agustín Lara) com Rosângela
02. O Piano do Titio (Silvio Vianna)
Caravan (Duke Ellington / Irving Mills / Juan Tizol)
03. Adonde Vás (Silvio Vianna)
      Maxixando (Silvio Vianna)
04. O Trem Atrasou  (Paquito / Estanislau Silva / Arthur Villarinho) com Rosângela
Música Maestro (Arlindo Marques Júnior / Roberto Roberti) com Rosângela
      Samba Novo (Silvio Vianna)
05. Holyday For Strings (D. Rose)
06. Por Que (Arlindo Velloso / Hélio Santi)
07. Elegante (Lina Pesce)
08. Derrota (Arlindo Velloso)
09. Jambrando Mambo (Silvio Vianna)
10. Última Lágrima (Peterpan / Afonso Teixeira / M. Robledo) com Rosângela
11. Onde Estará Meu Amor (Lina Pesce)

REMARK by Mr Memory:
Quando, eu escuto o tema musical Holiday for Strings (Férias para Cordas), de autoria do pianista e band-leader David Rose, gravada por volta de 1942, com lançamento no 78 rpm Victor 27853, me vem a mente as cenas das comédias dos filmes brasileiros do final dos anos 50. Este LP de Silvio Vianna também traz outro tema que muito me agrada, que é o clássico Caravan, gravado pela big band de Duke Ellington a 14 de Maio de 1937.

REVIEW by Mr Memory:

Miranda e Conjunto - O Maximo no Genero (1963)

Chantecler CMG 2230

As the next career album by Miranda to be presented, I have chosen his O Máximo no Gênero from 1963 as it is at first sight a bit more revealing than the previous one:

The front cover displays this time not only his guitar, but also the young lady sitting on it.

The back cover shows that the arrangements are by Francisco Morais, also
the text on the back cover text gives additional facts, but not who has written it.

I am listing here also the names of tracks performed and their composers, but to discover how it all sounds you must do it yourself by listening to:

01. Bonanza (Ray Evans / Jay Livingston)
02. Samba É (A. Miranda / Santana)

The latest package sent by Pedro & 300discos contains several of his albums, and for the first I have chosen Salerosa from 1962, his second career album (out of eight listed + eight 78 rpms) mainly because the cover clearly displays his instrument, as well as the back cover offers an informative text by Braz Baccarin about Chantecler's sound quality, the music + sound effects on this album and Miranda's career so far.
